How To Get Testimonials For Your Business

So how do you get testimonials for your business? In short, you ask for them. But asking is not enough since a client will almost always say yes, yet now they have the burden of doing it. So they don’t. Or they forget. And you get frustrated. And everything gets just a little bit awkward.

Here are the steps to getting great testimonials for your business, without putting a burden on anyone else:

1. Use the word “because.”

When you ask for a testimonial, in the same breath, explain why you need the testimonial. For example, say this: “Would you being willing to provide me with a testimonial, because I would like to use it when I speak with new prospects.” The simple step of explaining why you want the testimonial, gets a lot more people willing to do it.

2. Make it super easy.

It’s at this step where most people go wrong. Instead of asking for a testimonial and waiting for them to get around to it, offer to prepare one for them. For example, say this: “I don’t want to waste any of your time. If you like I can prepare a testimonial for you and if you agree with it we can use it or tweak it until it is good.” You may be surprised at how many people take you up on this. It makes it really easy for them and you get the testimonial you need.

3.Get permission to share their name.

A testimonial is worth its weight in gold when it is backed with the person’s full name, title and company name. The more you can include the stronger the testimonial becomes.

4. Get a picture too!

Some people will additionally let you put their picture next to their testimonial. If you can get this, its a home run, because pictures always get noticed and even further enhance the testimonials credibility. How do you get it? Ask!

5. Don’t forget to send a thank you.

A testimonial is something you can use for life. Show your appreciation by sending a thank you card or small gift.

Collecting testimonials for your business is a never ending process. You literally can’t have too many. Even if you don’t publicly share each one, the person who provides the testimonial about your business will have a stronger affinity toward your business. You win – both coming and going.

  1. I don’t know if this is the “best” testimonial I’ve ever received… but it’s one of the top 10.
“All we can say is WOW! We were ready to
commit hari-kari our business was in such a stall. We were at 30% vacancy and
swirling around the drain hole. We’ve leased more commercial space in the last
two months than we leased in the past five years!”
